LucasFilm Data Center Tour

Arik Hesseldahl of All Things Digital toured the data center for LucasFilm Ltd. and Industrial Light and Magic (a division of Lucasfilm) and published this video.
The Technical Publicist at ILM Greg Grusby takes us on a tour and discusses the “petabytes of storage,” used and also shows the “Deathstar” servers, no longer in service, which did the rendering of the Star Wars prequel movies. The new IBM Blade servers are the current work horses that render data films, and of course, he plugs them all, (as any good employee of a gigantic movie company should).
ILM has this facility located San Francisco and an animation studio in Singapore. More info on the capabilities of Lucasfilm’s network can be found at datacenterknowledge.com
