Looking to Expand Your Data Centre Space? Now is the Time...

Ken Baudry of Grubb & Ellis National Data Center Practice states the importance of getting your data centre plan in place for the coming year.

expanding your data center

Now is the Time...

By Ken Baudry on January 3rd, 2011

"Conventional wisdom is that acquisition of data center space, whether colo, build to suit or even expansion of existing facilities, takes between six months to a year to complete.    A big part of the schedule is defining and redefining the requirements.

  • Tier II or Tier III?
  • 50W/sf or 150W/sf?
  • 8,000 sf or 12,000 sf
  • Growth (or perhaps contraction over time)
  • East or West of the Mississippi

It’s human nature to ask for more, knowing that if it’s too expensive you can buy less but you can’t easily go back for more.   So most companies make a couple of passes at it before they are ready.   Only after getting past ”what is this really going to cost”, can we get down to what do we really need?

If you want to be in new space this in 2011, its time to get started.   Now, you might be thinking that you can be done in six months, i.e. at the short end of “six months to a year” but this limits your possibilities to collocation facilities as a six month schedule pretty much eliminates the possibility of a build-to suit.

The take away message; call us and lets get started."

While we're a little further from the Mississippi, the message remains the same.  If you're in Western Canada, then start with Care Factor and get the ball rolling.
